The Parade

The Parade

The Strawberry Fair parade is the biggest spectacle of the day and follows a different and relevant theme each year. In 2008, the theme was 'Recycling is Not a Myth' and the parade team's mission was to make Mythical Beasts and Creatures from recycled materials.

The Parade is a part of the Fair that uniquely enables members of the local community to become “performers” without any previous experience, and to increase their confidence by encouraging them to use artistic and practical skills that they may never have known they had by teaching them to make Carnival costumes.

The parade itself comprises up to 100 samba players (from the local Arco Iris Samba Band), bellydancers, capoiera dancers and 20 – 30 costume wearers. The parade lasts for approximately one hour.

The fair is then officially OPEN! Come and join in and have some fun!

The Parade Operatives

  • Emma Hanid Emma Hanid: "I have been a participant in the Samba band in the parade for four years so thought it was about time I put something back in. I love the spectacle we make as we parade the streets of cambridge and the feeling of being the most original and 'coolest' thing in the Cambridge events calendar."
  • Ann Templar Ann Templar: Co conspirator. It would feel wrong not to give Ann a mention - "We're in it together..."
